The power was off during the final walkthrough thanks to a mixup at the power company, and the wire transfer didn't come through until midway through the closing...
But we closed the deal! I'm now a homeowner!
There are many things that I need to do to the house before I move in, but I've already showed it off to friends and family, rekeyed the doors, set up a dehumidifier in the basement, and ordered a clothes washer and clothes dryer. At this rate, it won't take long!

Tomorrow, June 3rd, 2024, I will buy a house.
For years, I avoided this trap of interest payments and opportunity cost. I used the relative freedom of renting to change jobs, increase my salary, see new places, and try new things.
But every time I carried all my belongings up and down stairs, built a new social circle from scratch, and learned a new job, it got a little bit harder. I noticed all the things that you can't do well while living in an apartment. Work on cars. Weld. Garden. Barbeque. Host guests.
So I started to forgo opportunities to save for a down payment. Big opportunities like learning to fly, getting a Master's or Doctorate, or visiting Tokyo.
As the downpayment grew, so did the temptations. Instead of a house, I could buy a new car. An amazing vacation. Start a business.
I actually succumbed to that last temptation, and wasted a lot of money on it.
But today, I have 23.08% down for a house near work, with a garage, a fenced in back yard, room for guests, and a good Internet connection. It's not more house than I can handle financially or physically.
I'll be buying it on a 15 year mortgage. With a little discipline, I should be able to pay it off in 11 years. With a lot, a few as six. A challenge whose reward is the freedom of no mortgage or rent payments.
I'm ready.

The first post. Should be great, right?
Problem is, if you work too hard on making it perfect, you might not make anything at all.
